Recent Media Coverage

Media outlets continue to spread the word about The Man Behind the Nose. Here are a couple of recent examples:

The inflight magazine for American Airlines says, “Bozo’s size 83AAA shoes took Larry Harmon — and children’s entertainment — to places he had never imagined when he fi rst donned that red yak-hair wig in 1956.”

City View in Central Iowa says the book is “chock full of interesting tales.”

Honolulu counts the book amongst the 5 Things We Love.

The San Antonio Current reviews the book and manages to work in a Batman Begins reference.

Bozo and Pop Culture

One of the amazing things about the Bozo phenomenon is just how pervasive the character is our culture, our lexicon, and our day-to-day lives. Here are just a few recent examples of how Bozo had made (or been featured in) headlines:

Bozo Tops Jesus in County Treasurer’s Race

“UFC could headline a pay-per-view with Bozo the Clown vs. Rukka Rukka Ali and still get 250K buys…”

Larry Harmon didn’t mind that the Bozo moniker has entered our common lexicon as a dismissive term. Just the fact that a fictional character’s name became so ingrained in our culture that people use it to describe other folks is a pretty amazing fact.

First Week of Release

It’s been a tremendously busy week here at The Man Behind the Nose Central. Here’s a quick recap of all the amazing adventures we’ve had this week.

On Tuesday, co-author Thomas Scott McKenzie and Susan Harmon gave dozens of radio interviews with stations all around the country. Then we celebrated the book’s release along with the 50th anniversary of Bozo the Clown in Chicago with a ding-dong-dandy event at Borders in the Miracle Mile. Lots of old pals came out to get a copy of the book, meet Bozo himself, and play the Grand Prize Game!

Media has continued throughout the week which has been a real joy. It’s been so nice to speak with people throughout the nation who remember Bozo with such fondness. We’ve heard really touching stories from people about the time they went to a taping of the Bozo Show.

This weekend, the fun continues with an event at Book Soup in Los Angeles. We’ll gather at 4pm to take photos and get books signed by Bozo, followed by an all out pie assault as we indulge in an age old tradition of throwing pies in people’s faces. Don’t worry, you’ll be spared. But some very generous pals are gonna need a bunch of towels! Be sure to come out and say hello!

License Plates and Expressions of Love

Tragically, Larry Harmon passed away shortly after completing The Man Behind the Nose. Everyone at Larry Harmon Pictures and those of us working on the book were blown away by the thousands of people who wrote in to express their love and support and to share their condolences.

And even more people expressed their emotions in ways that we would never know about, small things they did in their local communities or within their family. Here’s a perfect example of that:

A dear friend in Baltimore was driving around town and pulled up behind a vehicle at a red light. She glanced at the minivan and didn’t think anything about it. Until she saw the license plate. Then she grabbed her cellphone and snapped this photo.

We have no idea who the owner of this vehicle is. But we do appreciate the way they chose to express their respects. It’s just one small example of how Bozo fans are a group of great, loving, kind-hearted people.

Good to See Everyone at Comic Con

Just getting caught up from our visit to Comic Con where we hung around the HarperCollins booth. We met some new and old pals, gave away some Bozo swag, and generally had a blast!

One Month Until the Nationwide Release

It is officially 1 month until the nationally release of The Man Behind the Nose. As the days count down, we’re dreaming up cool events, fun activities, and lots of other things that will remind you why you loved Bozo in the first place. Plus, a lot to introduce you to Larry Harmon, the actual man behind the big red nose. And under the wig. And in the shoes.

Earlier, we posted a news item about our Chicago book release event. Well, it’s worth pointing out that this isn’t your ordinary book signing with cheap wine, some stale cheese, and a few geezers in tweed jackets with patches on the sleeves. No sir, this is a full-fledged, outta this world night of entertainment. As a hint, there might, just maybe, be a few pies thrown about for fun. And our course, your old pal Bozo will be in attendance, signing books and getting into all kinds of shenanigans. Other events are scheduled throughout the country, so keep your eyes peeled for more updates as we come to your town!

One month to go till it’s the Bozo Show, all over the country!

What’s It All About?

So what, you might be wondering, is this book all about?

Well let me tell you, it’s the most rootin’ tootinest, ding-dong dandy show in the whole ding-dong dandy world! It’s full of amazing stories that you’ve never heard before

For example, did you hear the one about when Bozo the Clown ran for President and multiple assassination attempts were made on his life?

Then I guess you know nothing about the world’s most famous clown, or the man behind the empire. Sure, you know the giant shoes, the red bulbous nose, the big ruby smile, and the twin shocks of red yak-hair bursting from the sides of his head. And obviously you know the many clowns inspired by him, from Ronald McDonald to Krusty the Clown.

So perhaps it’s time you learned about Bozo, and the man behind the nose. Because the wild, inspirational stories in this book are all true. As real as the nose on your face.

In this unputdownable book, which Larry Harmon completed just before his death at age 83, are incredible stories of astronauts, cannibals, celebrities, assassins, and deep-sea divers — all encountered in full Bozo regalia, and with photos to prove it. Along the way, Harmon added to his comedy empire thousands of hours of cartoons and films, in addition to the rights to the legendary Laurel & Hardy characters.

Not only is Harmon’s life by turns incredible and hilarious, it’s also an inspirational testament to the power of one man’s positive attitude, dedication, and work ethic — and how he changed the world.
